Confusion arose due to RBI’s regional holiday calendar and closures in other institutions.
Indian stock markets will remain open for trading on Friday, June 6, despite the festival of Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid) being celebrated in many parts of the country. Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will operate as per normal schedule.

This clarification comes amid growing speculation among investors and traders about a potential market closure ahead of the weekend, especially with Bakrid falling between June 6 and June 7, depending on the regional calendar.

Bakrid is one of the most significant religious observances in the country, and holidays are often declared by state and central government bodies.

However, stock exchanges operate on a separate, pre-approved holiday schedule. According to the official holiday calendars of the NSE and the BSE, June 6 is not listed as a trading holiday, and trading across equity and derivatives segments will proceed as usual.

The confusion stemmed from the Reserve Bank of India’s calendar, which lists both June 6 and June 7 as holidays in some regions. Additionally, various public institutions and offices may remain shut for the observance of Id-ul-Zuha, prompting investors to question the operational status of capital markets.

For investors, staying informed of exchange schedules is critical to ensure smooth execution of trades, settlements, and portfolio management.

List of remaining stock market holidays in 2025

While June 6 will not see a market shutdown, there are 7 other holidays scheduled in the latter half of the year. As per the official exchange calendars, the following are the remaining stock market holidays for 2025:

    • August 15, 2025 (Friday) – Independence Day / Parsi New Year
    • August 27, 2025 (Wednesday) – Shri Ganesh Chaturthi
    • October 2, 2025 (Thursday) – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti / Dussehra
    • October 21, 2025 (Tuesday) – Diwali Laxmi Pujan
    • October 22, 2025 (Wednesday) – Balipratipada
    • November 5, 2025 (Wednesday) – Prakash Gurpurab / Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti
    • December 25, 2025 (Thursday) – Christmas
Investors are encouraged to align their trading plans with this calendar and remain attentive to any exchange notifications for last-minute changes.

For now, with Bakrid falling outside the scope of the official stock market holiday list, trading on June 6 will go ahead without interruption.
