Govt to mobilise Rs 8 lakh cr via bonds in first half of FY26
The Centre plans to raise Rs 8 lakh crore through dated securities during April-September period of 2025-26 to fund the revenue gap, the finance ministry said on Thursday. Out of gross market borrowing of Rs 14.82 lakh crore estimated for 2025-26, Rs 8 lakh crore, or 54 per cent, is planned to be borrowed in the first half (H1) through issuance of dated securities, including Rs 10,000 crore of Sovereign Green Bonds (SGrBs), an official statement said.

Wall Street's main indexes opened lower on Thursday, as President Donald Trump's latest tariff gambit sent auto stocks into a tailspin, while investors sifted through a slew of economic indicators.

Trump's 25 pc auto tariffs cast uncertainty over India's $7 bn component exports
US President Donald Trump's decision to slap a 25 per cent tariff on all auto imports has cast uncertainty over India's nearly USD 7 billion of exports to America, which industry fears could squeeze margins. Automobiles and car parts imported to the US would face a 25 per cent tariff starting April 2.
While India is not a big exporter of cars to the US, Tata Motors' luxury car subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is deeply entrenched in the American market. About 23 per cent of JLR's over 4,00,000 units sold in FY24 were in the US. These were all exported from its UK plants.
JLR's profitability is likely to be impacted as passing on added costs to consumers may dent its market share, analysts said.

Berkshire-owned Lubrizol aims to double India share to revenues in five years
Speciality chemicals maker Lubrizol is targeting to double its share of revenues from India, Middle East and Africa region to 20 per cent of the business in the next five years, a top official said on Thursday. Rebecca Liebert, the president and chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway company, said India contributes less than 90 per cent to the region's revenues, and it sees a lot of opportunities in the country across sectors as the economy grows.

Bluestar aims up to 30 pc growth in AC sales, high numbers from rural market
Homegrown cooling products maker Bluestar expects 25-30 per cent growth in its room air-conditioners, helped by tailwinds such as an early arrival of summer, growing income, and some predictions suggesting a harsh season, its Managing Director B Thiagarajan said on Thursday. This growth would be over the high base created last season, when the room AC industry witnessed a surge of 30-40 per cent in volume in May and June due to the unrelenting heatwave in most parts of the country.
"We have planned for around 25-30 per cent growth. We will be able to meet that," said Thiagarajan, adding that he expects to sell around 1.75 million units of room ACs in FY26.
Bluestar, which on Thursday unveiled a lineup of 150 models, expects a major growth to come from smaller towns and rural regions.

EU preparing "robust, calibrated" response to new U.S. import tariffs, Commission says
The European Union is preparing its response to the new import tariffs on imported vehicles announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, the European Commission said on Thursday.
"We have this announcement on cars. Next week we understand that a new suite of measures from the U.S., what they're calling their reciprocal tariffs, will come into force. We regret all of these, but we are preparing for all of these," Commission spokesman Olof Gill told reporters.

Jefferies expects limited capacity, premium pricing from Starlink; sees no disruption to Indian telcos
Starlink's current capacity may be able to support 0.18 million subscribers in India for now, going up to 5.7 million users by 2030, and the "limited capacity" could necessitate premium pricing, Jefferies said on Thursday. British stocks fell on Thursday, with luxury carmaker Aston Martin slumping to a record low, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on all foreign-made vehicles and auto parts.

Gold prices extend intraday gains, surge by Rs 800/10 gm
Gold price witnessed a strong momentum today, surging by nearly Rs 800/10 grams in intraday trade. Gold April futures contracts at MCX opened higher today and continued to show resilience, shooting up to Rs 88,406/ 10 g during Thursday’s session.
Meanwhile, silver prices also showed strength as the May futures contracts of the white metal rallied by 1% or Rs 990/kg. The same were trading at Rs 1,00,470/kg around 4:15 pm today.

Gold prices climbed back towards last week's record high on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on auto imports starting next week, escalating global trade tensions that have been driving safe-haven demand for gold.
Spot gold had jumped more than 1% to $3,052.97 an ounce as of 1030 GMT, just a few dollars away from the all-time high of $3,057.21 hit on March 20. U.S. gold futures climbed 1.3% to $3,060.90.
Gold, traditionally seen as a hedge against uncertainty and inflation, has risen more than 15% this year.

RBI may cut repo rate by 25 bps in April; total 75 bps reduction likely in FY26: Ind-Ra
The RBI's monetary policy committee is expected cut benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points in its policy review meeting next month to push growth, India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) said on Thursday. "We expect the headline inflation in FY25 to cool off to 4.7 per cent. Monetary easing may be limited to 75 bps in FY26," Ind-Ra Chief Economist and Head Public Finance, Devendra Kumar Pant said.
However, if the impact of US reciprocal tariff turns out to be higher than expected, there may be higher easing by RBI, Ind-Ra said in a statement.

Rupee dips on importer dollar bids, unaided by uptick in Asian peers
