In the country's history, it is the first time that after the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, the national convenor of a national party has been arrested. "Arvind Kejriwal's arrest is BJP's political conspiracy," said Delhi's Education Minister.
Another AAP leader, Gopal Rai has declared plans for nationwide protests scheduled for today in response to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Kejriwal faces allegations of corruption associated with the city's liquor policy.
Arvind Kejriwal's arrest from his official residence followed the Delhi High Court's refusal to intervene in his plea for protection against coercive action by the ED in the excise policy case.
In response, Delhi Minister Atishi denounced the arrest as a clear conspiracy, citing the lack of evidence of any proceeds of crime despite two years of investigation by the ED and CBI. She questioned the need for deploying thousands of police personnel and paramilitary forces when the Delhi High Court had already issued notice to the ED.
Atishi suggested that Prime Minister Modi aimed to have Kejriwal arrested before the Lok Sabha polls.
