Speaking to ET about political alliances, AAP senior leader and national media coordinator Anurag Dhanda said, "AAP is not part of any alliance. We have our own strengths and are building on that." When asked about the status of the Opposition's INDIA bloc, Dhanda added, "That alliance was for the Lok Sabha elections. We are not a part of any bloc now."
This is AAP's first categorical statement on its political positioning since the 2024 parliamentary elections and its poor performance in the Delhi Assembly polls. Until now, INDIA bloc parties have been coordinating closely on floor strategies in Parliament. Recently, former finance minister P. Chidambaram expressed concern over the bloc's future, stating he was unsure whether it remained intact.
AAP is currently rebuilding its organization and preparing to contest Assembly elections across multiple states. According to party sources, states have been divided into two categories - A and B. Category A includes major states like Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Delhi, and Goa, where AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal will be actively involved. Category B states will see local leadership taking the lead in campaigns.
The party has confirmed it will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections independently, despite the INDIA bloc presence of RJD and Congress in the state.
