
Vikrant shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, saying, “My heart breaks for the families and loved ones of the ones who lost their lives in the unimaginably tragic air crash in Ahmedabad today. It pains even more to know that my uncle, Clifford Kunder, lost his son, Clive Kunder, who was the 1st officer operating on that fateful flight. May God give strength to you and your family, uncle, and to all deeply affected.”
Many from the Indian film industry also expressed their grief. Salman Khan posted, “Deeply saddened to hear about the Ahmedabad plane crash… heartfelt prayers for the families of the passengers, crew, and all those affected.”
Shah Rukh Khan wrote on X, “Absolutely heartbroken with the news about the crash in Ahmedabad... my prayers for the victims, their families, and all affected.”
Aamir Khan’s production house shared a message of support: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash that occurred today. At this moment of profound loss, our thoughts and condolences are with the families of those affected. Stay strong India. – Team AKP.”
Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut also expressed shock, “The news of the Ahmedabad plane crash is extremely tragic and painful. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.”
Akshay Kumar said on X, “Shocked and speechless at the Air India crash. Only prayers at this time.”
The Air India flight had 242 people on board, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 1 Canadian national. The crash happened near Meghaninagar, just outside the airport.
Air India confirmed that Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, with over 8,000 hours of flying experience, was in command, with Clive Kunder assisting as the First Officer.
Soon after takeoff, the plane reportedly gave a mayday call but could not be contacted again. It crashed outside the airport perimeter, and thick black smoke was seen rising from the site.
Emergency services including the CRPF and NDRF were quickly deployed. Around 150 CRPF personnel and three NDRF teams were sent to help with rescue operations.
