Nirjala Ekadashi 2025: What is the significance?
According to Hindu scriptures, Nirjala Ekadashi carries immense religious and spiritual importance. Observed during the Shukla Paksha of the Jyeshtha month, it is also known as Jyeshtha Shukla Ekadashi. The Nirjala Vrat is one of the most austere fasts, undertaken without consuming food or even a drop of water. Devotees break their fast only on the Dwadashi Tithi, and even then, they are allowed to drink water only after completing the necessary rituals. - After a thorough bath and cleansing, devotees begin their puja rituals early in the morning.
- An idol or image of Lord Vishnu is placed on a wooden plank.
- Offerings such as fresh flowers, homemade sweets, chandan (sandalwood) tilak, and a desi ghee diya are presented to the deity.
- Tulsi Patra (holy basil leaves) is a mandatory offering to Lord Vishnu.
- Devotees then offer heartfelt prayers before starting their day.
- Throughout the day, they chant the Shri Krishna Maha Mantra with devotion.
- On the following day, during Dwadashi Tithi, the fast is broken during the Parana period with food and water.
