Flash floods wreak havoc in China's Yunnan after intense rains
Flash floods in China's Yunnan province damaged dozens of homes, destroyed buildings and affected nearly 4,800 people, Chinese state media reported on Monday (June 2). Footage aired by CCTV on Monday showed residents in Deqin county in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture being rescued by boats after severe flooding caused roads to collapse. Several hundred people in Deqin were either rescued or relocated from local households and businesses, according to local media. In Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, torrential rains continued to belt residential areas as rivers nearby overflowed to flood homes and crops. Repair work to roads and power lines was underway, and authorities have warned that more rain is forecast in both prefectures in the coming days, said state media.
