    Amit Shah unveils plan for 7 CFSLs, 9 new NFSUs

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the establishment of seven new Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) across multiple states with an ₹807 crore investment, including forensic mobile vans for each state. A new CFSL building was inaugurated in Kolkata to serve West Bengal, Jharkhand, and the Northeast, expediting investigations through a cluster-based system.

    Kolkata: With the aim of strengthening the evidence-based criminal justice system, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Sunday that the central government plans to set up seven additional Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Bihar.

    The initiative will involve an investment of ₹807 crore, and every state will receive a forensic mobile van with central assistance. Inaugurating a new CFSL building in Rajarhat, Kolkata, Shah said the Kolkata centre would cater to West Bengal, Jharkhand, and all northeastern states, helping expedite forensic-based criminal investigations through a newly introduced cluster-based system.

    He also announced that, with an investment of ₹1,300 crore, nine more campuses of the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) will be established.
